EDUCATION EQUALS FUTURE
On July 13th 2008 the annual Tanzanian Day in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg took place in Mirow, a small town in the east of the country. Every year friends of the partnership between our church and the Lutheran Pare Diocese in Tanzania meet. Many of them have already visited the diocese or have had guests from there or plan to go there with a visiting group. This year, three teachers from the Pare diocese visited our church. Two of them are headmasters of the Lutheran Secondary School in Mruma in the North Pare mountain and of the Lutheran Secondary School in Manka in the South Pare mountain. Since 2002 there exists a special programme for the five Secondary Schools in the diocese which aims to support their development.
The main item on the Tanzanian Day was “Education in Tanzania”. The headmaster of the Lutheran Secondary School in Manka, Mr. Humphrey Mbaga, introduced with general shape of education in Tanzania. The coordinator of the project “Schools in Tanzania” shared his experiences since 2002. After that small groups discussed with the guests from Tanzania certain aspects of education in Tanzania. The following presentation combines both contributions, the introduction of Mr. Mbaga and the observations and reflections of Dr. Eckart Schwerin.
